I got my iPod used for a birthday present (yes, my parents got me a used iPod for my birthday. How cheap!), and even though it's used, it works great. The accessories that the 3G iPod Touch has are limited, but the ones that they do have work great. I would highly recommend getting an OtterBox or other hard case to protect your iPod from falls.
What I like about the 3G is that it works and that it does what I need it to do. Some people like the 4G iPod Touch because it has a camera.I have a nice Cannon digital camera, and therefor, I don't need a tiny iPod camera.
The difference between 4G and 3G is this: A tiny digital camera. My Dad loves his 4G, but I scratch my head over why he loves it so much. The camera that it gives you provides you with such a little resolution that you can't make the photos big enough to put them onto a calendar page without them become pixelated.
When you are deciding between 4G and 3G for your new iPod touch, pick 3G. It's cheaper. And you can spend the $100 that you didn't spend for that tiny camera on a nice digital camera. P.S: Cannons and Nikons are best!
I hope that my review will help you out!

Great item. You can keep all your photos on it and they look great and all your music and it sounds great. And you can stream music or video over wifi and that is great. But everyoneknows how great this ipod is. So let me just tell you my few complaints and they are my only complaints. The bottom line is that the thing has a one year warranty. Mine started to act up a little during the warranty -- sound occasionally coming from just one headphone. A little jiggling fixed it. It got worse and worse. It got intolerable about by four to six months after the warranty expired. When I went to repair it, at my own expense, it turned out the problem was the logic board itself. Basically, I'd treated this thing very carefully, kept it in a padded skin with a screen protector, and been careful and never dropped it, and it was shot, broken only a little out of warranty. Make of that what you will. The other problem is a small one. It is the fast-forward mechanism. There are two ways of doing fast forward in a long pod cast or a video. Neither are as precise and efficient as the old click wheel was. But there are probably apps that fix that.
So, would I buy another one of these? You bet. I've already ordered a generation 4 and I can't wait to get it. But apple is going to hear about the slightest problem that I experience within warranty. And if they don't take care of it then, they will darn will take care of it after the warranty expires.
